A Shocking Turn of Events: BD Chandigarh Transitions to HCLTech
Introduction
On July 25, 2024, a bombshell announcement rocked BD Chandigarh: the company was transitioning to HCLTech. For all of us BD employees, this news came as a tremendous shock. We were left wondering why BD made such a drastic decision and why they didn’t consider continuing to operate independently.
The Joy of Working at BD
Before this announcement, I had been thrilled to work at BD. Cracking the interview felt like a huge milestone in my career, and I was enjoying every moment. The work culture was exceptional, offering me opportunities to learn new technologies while inspiring my junior colleagues. BD provided great employee benefits, solid medical policies, and engaging activities that made work enjoyable.
The Event at Lalit Hotel
That fateful day, BD organized an event at the Lalit Hotel, and my two colleagues and I were buzzing with excitement to meet the leadership team. As we entered the venue, I noticed some people wearing HCLTech employee ID cards but thought little of it. Perhaps they were just partners or guests.
The Announcement
At 10:15 AM, the event kicked off with Ashish Sood, the director of BD Chandigarh, introducing the higher management from the San Diego team. Then, Alec Gignam took the stage. He skipped the pleasantries and bluntly announced that BD STS (Software Technology Solutions) was now transitioning to HCLTech. My heart sank. In the chaos of the crowd, I struggled to understand his thick English accent. For a moment, I thought they might just be changing the name to something like HBL. I hoped it was all a misunderstanding.

The Reality Sets In
Then a friend leaned over and whispered, “BD Chandigarh center is sold to HCLTech.” My world crumbled. All my dreams shattered in an instant. I had worked so hard to join BD, and I had even received an offer from HCL at the same time. It felt like a betrayal—BD had lured me in, only to push me towards HCLTech against my will.
The Aftermath
Feeling lost and unsure of what to do next, I took a moment to process everything. The formal director took the stage, trying to calm the crowd. He knew how devastating the news was. He began sharing stories about his excitement to accept the offer from HCLTech, spinning tales that felt disingenuous. Deep down, we all knew what was really happening. He promised that we would all get new jobs without needing to interview, but many of us didn’t want that at all. We felt that BD was making a colossal mistake.
Acceptance and Moving Forward
In that moment, disappointment flooded over me. I had no choice but to accept the offer from HCLTech and follow their instructions. Yet, I held onto hope, thinking, “The picture is still unfolding, my friends.”
I embraced a new opportunity and submitted my resignation to HCLTech. After resigning, I began to hear whispers that many others were hesitant to accept the HCL offer. A lot of my colleagues were waiting for better opportunities, and many were serving their notice periods at HCL.

Conclusion
I can only hope that BD realizes their mistake in the future. This entire experience has taught me that sometimes, the paths we take lead us to unforeseen places. As I navigate this new chapter, I remain hopeful for what lies ahead.
